Friends Rehabilitation Program (FRP), Inc., is an outgrowth of the Friends Neighborhood Guild. Incorporated in 1961, FRP represented the expansion of the Guild into housing development, FRP became independent in 1982. The organization has stood true to its purpose to provide housing, related facilities and services for the elderly, special needs residents, families, and homeless persons.
Friends Rehabilitation Program management is based in the Quaker community; over half of the Board of Directors are members of the Religious Society of Friends.
FRP is one of the few citywide non-profit developers of affordable housing. FRP owns five HUD Section 202 properties: Guild House East, Guild House West I & II, Sarah Allen and St. George. FRP is General Partner and manages three Low Income Tax Credit developments.
Friends Rehabilitation Program became a participant in the City of Philadelphia’s Transition Housing Program in 2001. The program provides housing and supportive services to homeless families as they move from homeless shelters to independent living through intensive case management and employment counseling.
FRP recognizes that a cornerstone of community development is homeownership. Toward this objective, FRP has expanded its mission to include the construction of affordable homeownership housing. FRP recently completed homeownership projects in Belmont and Strawberry Mansion. In 2010, FRP hopes to build 25 new homes in Strawberry Mansion.
